Lynn - Bangkok Trip Day 1

Current location... Shangri-la Bangkok's business center... Decided to come here to blog down my 3 days here... Due to the weather we had end our trip early as I'm nearly roasted...

Finally it was the moment that I'm waiting for. Overseas trip after a year long waiting, this trip is to Bangkok with Shanny.

I have handover my things over to Emily and awaiting for the moment to come. Had bought insurance in the evening thanks to Shan and head home early to pack my bag. We have discuss and decided to meet up 0530hrs at our door step to head of airport. Departure flight is at 0715hrs in the morning... Too much party, I almost cant wake up on time. Thanks to Shan's dad who volunteer to drive us to the airport.

Reach the airport slightly pass 0600hrs at Terminal 1. Check in and bought breakfast at Kiliney's Kopitiam... Guys... to be honours... THE BREAKFAST SUCKS!! I bought laksa, 2 cups of tea, egg and bread for the two of us. Laksa not enough flavour... Tea it is actually water that's brown colour... Lucky it's early in the morning and I'm still goggy... Otherwise I'll demand a refund!! >_<

Complaint and complaing when we are in the departure hall as we went pass Delifrance & Toastbox which we believe that it is even nicer!! Whatever is done can't be undone.. so just live with it...

Slept throughout the flight and we landed at the aiport shortly after... When we step out of the airport and looking aimlessly, we are welcome by the friendliness of the Thailanders. We are making our way through to the public taxi as we wanna have the fastest way there. However the taxi queue was operated in a way that there is someone who write down where you wanna go and it is additional 50 bucks for that service. One lady who is infront of us in the queue turn back and explain to us knowing that we are foreigners. Instantly we understand and follow the instructions... we do not mind paying knowing the fact that the driver might slash us and bring us to the wrong location. Nevertheless, we are still grateful to the kindness.

Once we reach the hotel, we are welcome by the friendly concierge and receptionist. The concierge even double check our name on the VIP list. A little too blunt to some of the guest, however they are just doing their job. Checkin process is a little longer due to the early arrival, however they got the things striaghten out and we are on our way to the room in no time. They have arrange a trainee to show us our room and she even explain every single details of the room. The porter have also came up to explain the view and brief idea of where to go shortly after. Due to we have request for a map, the trainee have brought up a map and a highlighter. Hey this is something that none of us will be doing. Face the fact you wont do it, dont disagree with me. So Shan and I have figure out where to go and where to avoid in no time!!

After settling down in the hotel, we make our trip to the first stop... Chinatown!! The place is suppose to be full of accessories and handmade items however due to Chinese New Year which is known as the Songkran. Almost all the shops are close. Shan is damn disappointed as she always shop alot here... Yeah I can imagine her accessories are made and bought in Bangkok... heez... Due to the fruitless trip, we sat down at one of the roadside stall for our first meal in the country... What we order, "Kway Chup"!! You must be thinking that wah lau eh go back Singapore eat la!! But I must say this is superb!! "Aroi-mak"!! The soup is with a slightest taste of pepper that brings a sense of refreshment, the noodle is so Q you just wanna order for more. After the sumptious lunch, we head back to the hotel knowing that we are getting to nowhere...

Slept at the hotel for a few hours and decided to visit around the hotel, that's when I realise that the internet here is FREE!! Online for awhile and report to everyone online that I'm safe here. Discuss with Shan over MSN... "DUH" and we decided to join in the Songkran party!! This is a totally new experience to both of us and we have no idea what to expect for that celebration.

Went back to the hotel room to decide on the equipment to bring to war and then we decided on my bag as its not cloth and we will try to chuck everything in. Wore a black t-shirts and jeans folded-up. Then here we head for...

When we are down to the streets and reach the main road... We are horrific!! The heartlanders here are crazy... They even prepare a truck with a tank of water in the middle to prepare war... However this is not the worse due to it is only a few people on the road that are doing that.

We decided to head down to Silom as it is the nearest shopping street to our hotel. Along the way we are chase by people trying to splash us with water. Til a part when they use waterhose to splash us, we totally surrender!! By the time we reach Silom we are already wet. Thus we decided to buy bottles of water along the way to equip ourself. However this is the best party ever... the whole road is close and it is filled with youngster!! They have trucks that are with stereo as well and blust the music out loud. This is the only time I can see so many cute guys thai or not thai... Songkran one explain that it is very rude to avoid splashing water and having sticky flour stick on your face as it is a blessing the other gave you. Thus we did the same back to them. Thus at the end of the night, we are all wet cold and dirty. It is a hell out of an experience.

The party ends early due to the last day. Shan and I do not wanna call it a day so we went to the nearest spa to pamper ourselves. It is so amazing!! The grass is always greener on the other end. Even if Bangkok have a lower living standard than us however they are more truthful and til what I see now the friendliest and mildest crowd.

Alright will stop here and continue Day 2 tomorrow.
